Where Slate Comes From

Geologically speaking, the slate we see today has been formed in one of two ways. The most common type of slate were formed from marine deposits of clay and sand called aqueous sediments. The second and much more rare types, called igneous slates, were formed from layers of volcanic ash. Both types of slate were formed millions of years ago by the heat and pressure within the earth bearing down on the sediments, and either type can contain slate suitable for roofing material.

All pictures that are depicted in this section are actual projects having being repairs – additions and or complete roofs, or work in progress by C & W Roofing.
